WePlay Esports has decided to pause the WePlay Academy League project due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"The experience of the recent seasons has shown that in the present situation, there are no proper conditions that would allow us to hold the next seasons of the tournament to the standard we set since Season 1. As before, the safety of our staff and all tournament participants is our top priority. This decision was agreed upon with all participating organizations," noted the WePlay statement.

The Ukrainian company WePlay has hosted the LAN finals of the Academy League at its own esports arena in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

The WePlay Academy League started in the summer of 2021, and for the next 18 months, there were six seasons of the tournament. However, after the start of the large-scale war in Ukraine in February 2022, the future of the event became questionable.

In February this year were rumors that WePlay was preparing for reforms in the company's activities, and the first step will be the closure of tournaments for academy teams. After that, WePlay denied it, saying they are communicating with partners about the continuation of the project.
