After nine months without a title, Team Spirit are champions again. The Russian-led squad swept Team Falcons 3-0 in the grand final of PGL Astana 2026, closing out a dominant playoff run and putting themselves back into the conversation among the world’s elite CS2 teams.
The biggest story of the tournament, however, was once again Danil ‘donk’ Kryshkovets. Spirit’s superstar rifler delivered one of the most overwhelming individual performances of the year and secured his first MVP medal of 2026 after posting a staggering 1.61 event rating.

Spirit Finally Returns to The Top

Coming into Astana, Spirit had not lifted a trophy since the latter half of 2025, an unusually long drought for a roster that spent much of the previous two years dominating Counter-Strike 2. Their path to the title was convincing from start to finish, but the playoffs showcased the team at its absolute peak.
Spirit dismantled MOUZ in the semifinals, conceding only five rounds across two maps before facing Falcons in the final.
Against Falcons, Spirit looked untouchable. The grand final ended in a clean 3-0 sweep, with donk leading the server and Spirit consistently outclassing Falcons in both opening duels and late-round conversions.
The victory also marked an important milestone for Spirit’s in-game leadership structure. With the team adapting throughout the season and dealing with coaching changes during the event, Astana felt less like a routine title and more like a statement that Spirit is still capable of championship-level CS2.
donk Delivers a Historic MVP Performance

While Spirit won as a team, Astana ultimately became another chapter in donk’s growing legacy.
donk finished the event with:
- 1.61 overall rating
- 0.98 kills per round
- 58% rounds with a kill
- Multi-kills in 29% of rounds
- Top-rated player on 71% of maps played
Those numbers place Astana among the best MVP-winning performances of the CS2 era. The rating was second only to donk’s legendary breakout event at IEM Katowice 2024.
One of the defining moments of the final came when donk secured a crucial 1v3 clutch, further cementing his grip on the MVP race before the series was even over.
The scary part for the rest of the scene is that this may only be the beginning of another dominant stretch. Despite Spirit’s inconsistent first months of 2026, donk has remained individually elite, and Astana could become the turning point that launches both him and Spirit back toward the top of the rankings.
Falcons Fall Short Despite Strong Tournament Run

Although the final was one-sided, Astana still represented a promising event for Falcons. The international roster made a deep playoff run and eliminated several dangerous opponents, including FURIA in a dramatic quarterfinal series.
The event also continued the spotlight on the star power of players like m0NESY and kyousuke, but Falcons simply had no answer for Spirit’s pace and donk’s relentless aggression in the final.
What This Win Means for Spirit

Astana may end up being remembered as the event that reignited Spirit’s season.
The team entered the tournament with questions surrounding form, consistency, and whether they could still compete with the likes of Team Vitality at the very top of CS2. By the end of the tournament, many of those doubts had disappeared.
For donk, the MVP is another reminder that he remains the most explosive player in CS2. For Spirit, the trophy ends a frustrating drought and re-establishes them as genuine title contenders heading into the rest of the 2026 season.
