What is a Key in CS2?

You can buy them both in-game and from other players, as keys are a commodity that can be sold on the Steam open marketplace.
How Do You Get Keys for Cases in CS2?
Unlock Container
There are two main ways to get keys.
The first one is to buy them directly in the game.
- Find the case you want to open in your inventory. Right-click on it and select ‘Inspect.’
- Then look for the ‘Unlock Container‘ option – in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- After selecting ‘Unlock Container,’ you will see a big green button that allows you to purchase a key. Click on it to buy the key directly.
- A case key in CS2 costs $2.49, or the same price in your currency.

The old days of sharing keys are gone, as Valve has made them unusable. A couple of years ago, Valve banned trading CS2 keys. All keys purchased after this ban are not exchangeable.
Consequently, other ways to purchase CS2 keys are only for those purchased before the ban implementation. Since they have limited quantity, their price is higher than those you can buy in the in-game store.
But if you need it, you can buy a key in the Steam store or on any external trading platform, such as CS.MONEY.
Key Purchase Troubleshooting
If you have problems when buying keys, you can do the following:
Enable Steam Overlay
Go to Steam > Settings > In Game > Enable Steam overlay while playing the game. If necessary, enable this option and restart the game.
Activate the Steam Community
Make sure your Steam community marketplace is active. This can be done through your Steam account settings.
